The Super Mario Bros. movie that Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment are producing was delayed last week, so we will have to wait until April 2023 to see it in theaters. However, it seems that some plot details have been leaked, although thankfully there are no major spoilers.
In today’s episode of GrubbSnax, journalist Jeff Grubb claimed to have heard some plot points from the Super Mario Bros. movie, though he warns that this may change during production. You can hear what Jeff Grubb said starting at 1:03:00 of his video.

According to what Grubb found, the visual style of the film is cartoonish and full of colors, similar to the style used by Hotel Transylvania but with characters from Super Mario. The humor appears to be full of puns and references to other media the plumber has appeared in, but rules out fart jokes and ‘dabbing’. “It’s not going to be MinionsGrubb clarifies.
It appears that Mario and Luigi have a minor redesign, starting the movie with worn and not-so-colorful outfits. The brothers were supposed to don their iconic costumes later in the film and the voices would have Brooklyn, NY accents. Grubb also says that Daisy is mentioned and there are female toads, but none named Toadette.

In August of last year we learned that Foreman Spike will appear in the Super Mario Bros. movie, a character that has been forgotten for 36 years. According to Grubb’s information, this is a bossy boss and would appear at the beginning and end of the film, supposedly to congratulate the brothers. Among the enemies that we would see are Goombas, Koopas, Hammer Bros., Bullets Bill, Banzai Bill, their towers, fuzzys and ninjis.
Supposed plot of the Super Mario Bros. movie:
On the plot of the movie, apparently this begins with a narration by Charles Martinet reviewing the jobs that Mario has had before joining the “Wrecking Crew”, showing a fight between Mario and Donkey Kong. Nowadays Mario is famous, but he goes down into the sewers after hearing reports of gorillas and dinosaurs fighting. In the sewers he finds a group of bouncers, some partying and others playing drums.
Besides: Nintendo confirms that the Super Mario Bros. movie is ready but they want to polish it.
Mario would meet an elderly DK (Cranky Kong) before falling into the Mushroom Kingdom. Apparently the Super Mario Bros. movie will be a musical with several songs and at this point in the movie the first one would sound. In this song we hear Bowser talking about how he has always wanted to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom before kidnapping Peach and destroying it. Mario and Captain Toad go after him.
Meanwhile, Luigi is worried that Mario won’t come back and goes down into the sewers, reaching a forbidden forest where he meets Yoshi. Mario loses a fight with Bowser and Kamek releases him into the forest, where he is reunited with his brother and Yoshi; They get new outfits in their iconic colors and head to Bowser’s castle.
The final fight of the film would play out with a song, but Kamek gives Bowser a mushroom and he chases after the brothers. Supposedly in this part we would see easter eggs to the different Mario powers throughout the series, such as the fire flower. At the same time, Yoshi faces Kamek, as there seems to be history between these characters.
In the end the brothers defeat Bowser, who falls into one of his own lava pits after stepping into a pipe, and the film ends with the brothers running a plumbing service in the Mushroom Kingdom. There is said to be a post-credits scene where Bowser returns as Dry-Bowser (or Little Bowsers).
