One of the most anticipated novelties of Windows 11 was the integration of the Android subsystem, in a very similar way to what we have already seen with Linux. However, Microsoft decided to postpone the integration of this feature and wait for it to be further tested, both internally and with Insiders.
This integration represents a challenge for the company. Getting Android running on Windows 11 doesn’t just require virtualization of Google’s operating system. In addition, it involves the integration of stores such as the Amazon AppStore within the Microsoft Store.
Android apps, closer to Windows 11
Until now, what we knew is that the Android Subsystem for Windows will be installed from the Microsoft Store and that It will be the Amazon AppStore who will be in charge of providing the applications. However, we had not seen this feature in operation.
From China We have been able to see the first Android apps running on Windows 11. WeChat is one of the applications that we can see in the screenshots and it confirms that the subsystem will have multi-window support and integration with the notification center.
Furthermore, we can see that the applications whose interface is adapted for tablet they will run in this format. As a consequence, we see that Microsoft has prepared this feature to make it work as natively as possible within Windows 11.
From Redmond they have confirmed that we will not be able to enjoy the Android Subsystem until 2022, although they hope to start testing it with Insiders in the coming weeks. What we don’t know yet is whether running this feature will require a new Windows 11 update and whether it will work on unsupported hardware.
With this addition, Microsoft hopes to increase the attractiveness of the Microsoft Store for the user. In addition, it will serve to make Windows 11 PCs less dependent on smartphones, as is now the case with Your Phone. On the other hand, let’s remember that this feature only worked with Samsung and Surface Duo phones.
