Twitter removed its verification mark, the famous blue tick, from the main account of The New York Times newspaper, this after the New York newspaper announced that it was not going to pay for the new verification service, Twitter Blue.
Twitter Blue is an optional paid subscription that adds a blue checkmark to your account and offers a selection of benefits that let you personalize your Twitter experience, as well as giving you early access to different features before they are available to all users, such as: edit tweet, save folders, custom app icons, custom navigation, longer video uploads, longer tweets, and more. Although it is important to note that the blue checkmark will appear after a review by the social network to ensure that subscribed accounts meet all eligibility criteria.
Twitter Blue subscriptions are now available worldwide, except for newly created Twitter accounts, which will have to wait 30 days to access this new feature. As part of the registration, all Twitter Blue subscribers will have to confirm their phone number, although once subscribed they will have to wait until the account is validated as meeting the requirements. And it is that this weekend came into force the reorganization of the verification service that requires a payment of 8 dollars for users and a thousand dollars for companies.
and precisely via Twitter, The New York Times announced that Elon Musk had taken the blue checkmark from them. The New York newspaper has 55 million followers and is among the 25 most followed accounts on this social network. However, the other sections of the newspaper still maintain the distinction of Twitter.
For his part, Elon Musk expressed his anger via Twitter ensuring that: “The true tragedy of The New York Times It’s that their propaganda isn’t even interesting.”
According to Statista data, it is estimated that by 2025 the number of monthly Twitter users will reach 360 millionwhich means that the expected growth of global users of this social network between 2021 and 2025 will remain in an average range of between 1.3 percent and 1.6 percent.
At the end of October 2022 Elon Musk bought this social network for 44 million dollarssince then it has not stopped introducing changes, which oscillate between dismissals of key figures within the company and the now demand for payment for the verification of accounts.
