It didn’t happen after that August 5, 2020. I saw my kids play a couple of times and I stopped in some streaming, but other than that I haven’t played Fall Guys again to this day. The arrival of the game to the free-to-play format with a version free for almost every platform it was the perfect excuse to return.
I did it on the Epic Games Store, after the initial rush that caused the servers to crash made us fear the worst. I had no problems with the connection beyond a couple of attempts to reach the menu, but the next two hours transported me to that August 5, 2020 with all the good and the bad that that implies.
A strange strategy to more could not
With the battle pass they show that they have perfectly understood the play of the suits, a direct inheritance of the skins of Fortnite that before the purchase of Epic already played a great role in Mediatonic’s plans.
Even in those skins that move away from a Godzilla or a Assassin’s Creed, the improvement in the designs is more than remarkable. Nothing to see the dinosaur that you could win at the launch of the game with the crocodile that is available now. With those disguises for our alubie you want to get hooked in search of one more victory, but the problem is that everything else keeps pushing you in another direction.
What was already born with a free-to-play spirit has taken almost two years to complete its transformation and, aware of the time that this entails and the number of seasons behind it, the first games almost make me throw some hairs that I don’t have.
All the time the same maps. Over and over again for more than 30 rounds, according to the challenges at the time. I was about to give up, tired and bored of doing the same thing all the time, but just before giving it up for lost I came across a comment that saved the ballot.
He stated that those first games were against bots and, strange as it may seem, things of the difficulty as they say, really the games were like that consciously. He had to keep playing so that he began to match you in conditions and be able to play other levels.
Fun but lacking
I will not go too far in assessing to what extent the idea seems to me to be a catastrophe of epic proportions that is going to take away a good part of the new players who arrive thanks to the format free-to-play. If it wasn’t for this text, and visualizing it every time I wanted to jump to something else, I would have stopped playing long before I got to the good stuff.
It must be recognized that by then things change. Not that there are revolutionary ideas behind each new level, but it’s still just as much fun and short of burning through all those other stages too, I could imagine playing this with friends or the kids one afternoon or another.
However, I doubt that it will for one simple reason: the pace of Fall Guys I find it too slow. Not because of the short legs of its characters, mind you, but because of the speed at which everything moves from the moment you start the game until you start enjoying it.
Find Game, Load Screen, Slow-mo Slideshow, Play, Laggard Camera, Final Judgment, and Start Over. If you have been lucky, from step number 2, if not, go back to the menu and from the beginning. too many things in between so little playand it is a problem that, in addition, in certain tests continues to entrench itself in excess.
People adapt to its difficulty very quickly and, what should have been a challenge that ended in nothing and less, ends up being a fight to see who can last longer that could go on for hours waiting for someone to make a false step and it’s over the match. Luckily the clock, almost always longer than a day without bread, is responsible for avoiding it.
I understand all that you have brought to Fall Guys So far, what makes it special and what is fun in it all that mass that two years later is still attentive to news, skins and season passes. I understand perfectly. But in my case, as bad as it weighs me, everything bad takes time to overshadow the good for the duration of the game without repeating the same level again. A club that arrives much sooner than I would like.
