How did Facebook Live come about?
In 2010, Facebook Live grew out of a hackathon, an event that spurred the launch of fresh ideas for the tech company. Randi’s idea was simple: create a television show that was broadcast live and that used Facebook as a connection platform.
“The idea was realized and the first test was a disaster, as only two people followed the transmission: my parents,” shared Zuckerberg. Randi was no stranger to failure, since since she had entered Harvard she had to give up her dream of acting in the theater, on Broadway, and her career turned to marketing. However, the businesswoman does not give up easily.
A few weeks after this failed Facebook Live experience, Katy Perry contacted Randi to tell him that she would like to use his show to launch her world concert. Facebook’s then-marketing leader decided it was one of the best ways to empower her idea.
Finally, in 2011, Facebook Live became a worldwide success. “I must say that I have never thought that I am an entrepreneur or an inventor, rather I consider myself an expert in marketing: someone behind the scenes who supports the ideas of others.” “Honestly, if I can do it, any of you can create something that is seen by 2 billion people.”
With this idea, Zuckerberg also decided to close gender gaps in the world of technology. During her participation in Expansión Summit, the executive spoke about how hard the pandemic has been for women.
“860,000 women have lost their businesses, in the case of Mexico it has been even worse, and this gap has worsened because many of them have had to dedicate themselves to taking care of their children and cannot have a balance in their lives.” She, in fact, did something similar: shortly after launching Facebook Live, she had her first child and decided to quit the company founded by her brother to pursue her own projects. But along the way he fulfilled another dream: to sing on Broadway.
Now, within her company Zuckerberg Media, the businesswoman seeks to support girls, women and entrepreneurs to achieve their own dreams, because at last, as she shared in her conference, an idea that arises as a dream can become a millionaire business.
