In Mexico, the Meta platform is the most popular among Internet users, since more than 90 percent claim to use it daily.
Following in the footsteps of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, both Meta platforms, have their sights set on charging a monthly amount for their verified accounts, a movement that, after being severely criticized on Elon Musk’s social network, is not fully understood.
Social networks, for years, have become platforms not only for interaction, but for content of all kinds, adapting to this new era in which creators are the ones who dominate brand strategies in order to reach a larger number of consumers.
Under this framework, Facebook continues to lead the ranking of social networks with a total of 2.6 billion registered users globally, according to the information disclosed by DataReportal.
On the other hand, we are talking about the fact that the social network developed by Mark Zuckerberg has a strong presence in Mexico. In a context in which, in our country, the number of users attached to social networks amounts to 94 million, Facebook has 92.9 percent preference of Mexican Internet users.
Instagram, also owned by Meta, ranks fourth among the most used social networks in Mexico with 79.4 percent preferencea fact that shows that, at least in our country, Mark Zuckerberg’s platforms are the ones that dominate the market, well above TikTok, which is the social network that, during the pandemic, found its moment of explosion at such to the extent that, currently, it already has 1.7 billion users.
Facebook and Instagram “copy” Twitter and this will charge for verified accounts
The name of Twitter, since last year, has not ceased to be in the magnifying glass of the virtual community since the magnate CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk bought it for the amount of 44 billion dollars, according to what was announced.
In this sense, one of the biggest changes that the platform has undergone is the charging of users who wish to have their account verified; Now, Meta has a new plan ready that follows in the footsteps of the so-called “blue bird social network.”
And it is that, according to a post published by Mark Zuckerberg himself, Instagram and Facebook will have their own charge for verified accounts: Facebook will cost $12 per month (220 Mexican pesos) in its web version and $15 (275 Mexican pesos) on iOS devices.
Instagram, for its part, will be “cheaper”, because in its web version it will have a monthly subscription of 8 dollars (147 Mexican pesos) and 11 dollars (202 Mexican pesos) for its mobile version.
Taking into account that we live in an era of content creators and influencersthese changes can have a significant impact on those who need to have their account verified, which is why, in this sense, this decision is not fully understood, especially with the background of Twitter.
