Formula 1 announced this Tuesday on his arrival at the Turkish Grand Prix his plans for a more sustainable future in the championship. As explained by the agency, sustainability plans go through a new generation of engines by 2025 and intend for the engine to be powered by a 100% sustainable direct fuel designed to achieve your goal of being Net Zero Carbon in 2030.
Stop now In 2022, F1 will switch to E10 fuel, a mixture of 90% fossil fuel and 10% ethanol and with the launch of the new power units they want to develop a 100% sustainable fuel. F1 is in talks with the different fuel suppliers to develop the quantities needed for the championship and subsequently increase production for wider social use.
The 100% sustainable direct fuel will be created in the laboratory using residues, non-food biomass or municipal waste while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from fossil gasoline by at least 65%.
This fuel can be used in a standard internal combustion engine without any modification being necessary and the idea is that they have the same energy density as current gasoline to make cars as fast as now. From Formula 1 they assure that they can play their role to “achieve a huge impact on greenhouse gas emissions in the global transport sector.”
