With the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we discover powers of the force never seen in the saga, as well as the term Diada of the force, now a book sheds some light on the subject
When Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hit theaters, there was a great division in the fans about the film that closed the new trilogy. Some thought it was a perfect send-off not only for the heroes of the sequel trilogy, but for the Skywalker saga as a whole. Others thought that he was disrespectful of everything George Lucas had built in the past. While many people share different opinions on the film, there was a plot point that was briefly mentioned during the film’s climax that piqued everyone’s interest: when Palpatine revealed that Ben Solo and Rey were a “dyad of force ».
Palpatine’s reveal about the two characters answered many questions that had been raised during The last JediSpecifically, how Rey and Kylo Ren could see each other through the Force and even connect with each other by touching hands when she was in Ach-To and he was aboard her Star Destroyer thousands of light years away.
When the two characters travel on Exegol in The rise of Skywalker To defeat Palpatine, Rey raised Anakin’s lightsaber over his head and disappeared behind his back, cutting the scene and immediately showing Ben with the lightsaber, revealing that they could even exchange objects through force.
The explanation given to the viewers is that a dyad is the connection of two people as one through the Force and it was not deepened many more. Fortunately, a new book focusing on the Sith delves deeper into the subject.
Star Wars – Secrets of the Sith, dedicate a page to fully explaining what a force dyad is, and include a picture of what this link actually looks like.
What is the dyad of force?
The book describes the bond as a “Legendary manifestation that had not been seen for generations”, while reaffirming Palpatine’s words that it is “As strong as life itself”:
There are few secrets of the Force that I have yet to master. But the ancient prophecies of our Order speak of a legendary manifestation invisible for generations: a dyad. This pairing of two strong beings in the Force, united by an unbreakable bond, creates a power as strong as life itself.
Secrets of the sith then delve a little deeper into the explanation of the history of the dyad of force and mentions that it predates the Rule of Two and that it is officially called “Doctrine of the dyad”. He also continues to talk about how the connection unlocks “A lot of skills”, some of which go beyond “Even the most powerful Force wielder”:
For a millennium, the Sith have adhered to the Rule of Two. But this decree is said to be merely a pale imitation of its predecessor, the Doctrine of the Diada. Legends claim that two beings who share this deep connection gain access to a host of abilities, abilities that are beyond the reach of the most powerful wielder of the Force.
The rest of the page explains some of the powers that episode IX showed, such as “Passing physical objects through time and space”. The explanation ends by mentioning once again that the powers of a force dyad “Know no limits”:
“Members of a dyad were believed to be able to transfer their life force to heal others. Some could even pass physical objects through time and space in an instant. If two Sith were linked so deeply as to transcend their physical selves, the power they could unlock together would know no limits. “.
The concept of the Force dyad interested many fans after seeing The rise of Skywalke. Now that there is an official explanation and definition of what it is and what kind of powers two people could have, Star Wars could definitely explore it in future projects.
Will we see these force powers again in the future?
The video game Knights of the Old Republic It’s not officially canon anymore, but many fans have been asking for that story, particularly centered around Darth Revan, to be turned into a movie trilogy or TV series. On The rise of Skywalker, just as in this new book, a Force Diada is said to have been “Invisible for generations.”
On Knights of the Old Republic, Revan and a Jedi named Bastila are seen to have a connection through the Force. The description of a dyad could definitely align with the two characters, and since the video game has an official remake, it would be interesting to explore whether or not the two characters were the last dyad to be seen in the galaxy.
With this new book dedicating a page to explaining this connection to the Force, Disney could have plans to bring it back in some way in a future project in the franchise, be it in the form of a film, series on Disney + or video games.
