The Mandalorian: First season
It all started with an assignment: to search for a “valuable merchandise”. One of the few people capable of doing so in the entire galaxy was din djarin. The mercenary accepted the proposal because of the reward: substantial and brilliant enough to be able to order a new armor. But there was a surprise, that mission had the dimensions of a baby, even if it was a 5,000-year-old person.
When they meet, after an abundance of gunfire and explosions, a connection emerges between them. This moment leaves one of the most important scenes, by literal and poetic meaning, of The Mandalarian. Din Djarin extends his hand to meet another. A frame that evokes Adan creationof the Renaissance. Was it just a nod to the work of Michelangelo? No. At that precise moment a new life began for both of them.
A couple who do not share a common language, made up of codes, but who are united by a bond that goes beyond words. Din Djarin finds in that baby, who would later be named Grogu, the opportunity to redeem part of his history and avenge his own past. It must be remembered that he was orphaned, a condition similar to that of his travel companion.
This, in turn, puts Din Djarin in the crosshairs of various threats; especially after fighting the client, played by Werner Herzog, the person who wanted to retrieve Grogu for various experiments. There is a transformation of the protagonist. Aware of his link to “the boy,” he fears that giving him up will expose him to the point of death. He then decides to save him.
In that trip the figure of Moff Gideonstarring Giancarlo Esposito. He represents an active faction of the Empire and wishes to have control over Grogu, as he is aware of his training as a Jedi. Something that for Din Djarin is still a mystery. This leads the two to face each other in the finale of the first season of the series.
In this cluster of events, Din Djarin not only evolves in terms of technical resources —improving issues such as his armor, some weapons and other equipment. He also evolves as a person. Through Grogu he reconciles with part of his humanity, the one that hides under an expressionless helmet made of beskar.
The second season break
During the first season of The Mandalorian another goal is installed in Din Djarin, at the same time that he attends to orders: Grogu must return to a Jedi so that he can continue his training.. The little boy was initiated into the arts of the Force at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. This poses a dilemma: Din Djarin must detach himself or not from the being with whom he maintains a bond; personal and affective benefit over duty.
At another point in his life, the decision would have been simple: break away, deliver one more package, to claim the reward. But the protagonist of The Mandalorian He’s no longer just a character who cares about himself; there is more. Through Grogu, “Mando” has strengthened new ties with figures like Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Greef Karga (Carl Weathers).
His mission, to protect “the child”, has become, in some way, group. Din Djarin encounters as many threats as allies along the way. Meanwhile, he tries to find a Jedi with whom he can leave Grogu. His mission seems to be completed when he finds Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). The detail? She is unable to train him because the bond he has with
However, he offers him an alternative: take Grogu to the seer stonein the planet Tython. That structure was part of an ancient Jedi Temple which, in the present narrative of The Mandalorian, is in ruins. The goal is for you to establish contact with The Force and someone can hear your call. While the two are there, Boba Fett appears to claim her father’s armor.
This produces a conflict between Din Djarin and Boba Fett. As a solution, “Mando” proposes a business: if you help him protect Grogu, he will give you the armor what are you looking for. Defend against what? Of an imperial attack. That chapter ends with the ship of the protagonists destroyed and with the emergence of a new alliance.
While Din Djarin was protecting Grogu, Boba Fett retrieved the armor himself. In another of those nods to the code and honor of the Mandalorians, the series leaves a key stretch: Fett is aware that the agreement has not been fulfilled because Djarin has lost his protégé. So, he agrees to help rescue him.
The little one is under the power of Moff Gideon. The threat is not minor, since the villain has his own army. So, Din Djarin must form his own or, at least, establish a network of alliances with which to face the main villain of The Mandalorian. In that regrouping of forces, “Mando” returns to Cara Dune and focuses on finding some Mandalorians scattered throughout the universe.
In this search he finds Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackoff). She is one of the references of the Death Watch, a radical group that is governed by some Mandalorian values and that has an enemy in common with Din Djarin: Moff Gideon, who is in his light cruiser, along with all his army.
After a series of battles, Din Djarin and his allies manage to rescue Grogu and, when they think they are in control of the ship, stormtroopers known as “Blackholes” emerge. It is an elite and mechanical branch. The good guys in the story are trapped in the control area of the ship, until The Force emerges, represented by Luke Skywalker (mark hamill).
Luke Skywalker he takes care of the threat and warns that he has come to look for Grogu. So, both protagonists must separate. Din Djarin gives his protégé permission to leave. Although the chapter generates a climate of nostalgia, of rupture, the idea that this objective must be met is also established. That is the path and those involved in it assume it.
In this context, the second season of the series ended.
The surprise in Boba Fett’s book
During the fourth chapter of Boba Fett’s bookGrogu arrives in his own ship at Peli Motto’s workshop (Amy Sedaris). This is another of the friendships that Din Djarin has been making over time. Motto, in particular, has a special fondness for Grogu. Initially, it was not expected that this series would build such a direct bridge with The Mandalorian.
