Three months before the presidential elections in France, in April 2022, an app for smartphones is generating controversy because it uses the same “matching” logic as Tinder with the idea that the undecided vote for one or the other candidate.
In just over a week it has already registered 500 thousand downloads.
What does Elyze do? Same as Tinder: link. In this case, the convictions of registered users with the proposals of the candidates for the presidency of France.
The criticisms have not been long in coming, since many understand (with logical fear) that the algorithm of the app could be tendentiously altered for a particular game.
Likewise, everyone agrees that it is one more example of the apathy that exists in France on the subject and that it found a download place in the app.
Using the principle of dating apps like Tinder, Elyze seeks to bring young people between the ages of 18 to 30 closer to the main proposals of the different political forces running in the 2022 presidential elections.
On the screen, a proposal appears and if the user agrees, they just have to “swipe” to the right.
On the contrary, if the project is not convincing, the finger goes to the left. Same as Tinder.
The application records the responses and offers users a ranking of the candidates to be president of France according to their ideological affinity.
The more users take a position before more proposals, the ranking is more reliable.
It is so successful that in the first week of 2022 it was the most downloaded application in the Apple Store and Play Store from France, even more than health applications such as TousAntiCovid and Doctolib, in full wave of infections due to the new variant of coronavirus.
The app seeks to generate interest among the youngest for the April elections.
Is that according to an IFOP survey, only 40 percent of young people plan to vote.
Knowing in a simple way the proposal of each one and looking for coincidences between them has managed, in a certain way, to ward off indifference.

Another challenge it seeks is to attract new voters, especially those who are called up for the first time.
Beyond Elyze, the French will choose in these elections among those who register before January 15.
Current President Emmanuel Macron and Valérie Pécresse, Eric Zemmour, Anne Hidalgo, Yannick Jadot and Jean-Luc Mélenchon are expected to be present.
