Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk is reportedly developing plans to create an artificial intelligence (AI) startup to compete with OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, one of the most popular generative AI companies that he co-founded in 2015.
The disclosure came after reports emerged that Musk is assembling a team of AI researchers and engineers, according to the Financial Times (FT). Although Musk left the OpenAI board in 2018, the launch of the new AI startup will position him among other tech giants, such as Google and Microsoft, in building next-generation AI.
The note suggests that Musk is in talks with investors from SpaceX and Tesla to invest in the next artificial intelligence company. “Lots of people are investing in it. It’s real and they’re excited about it,” the FT source added.

The alleged findings complement a recent April 12 memo, in which an anonymous source revealed that Musk purchased nearly 10,000 graphics processing units to fuel Twitter’s AI initiatives.

Yet another tech giant joining the AI race is Amazon Web Services (AWS).
