After several weeks of uncertainty, this Tuesday morning the president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO)announced that it will build the expected Tesla Gigafactory in Mexico. Despite the fact that the president himself suggested other locations, the place chosen for the new facilities is the state of Nuevo León.
During his ‘morning’ conference, the Mexican president explained that in the last week he had two conversations with Elon Musk. This led to an agreement between the two for the electric vehicle manufacturer to invest in Mexico.
“There is already an understanding. Yes, they are going to dedicate the investment to Mexico and the plant is going to be established in Monterrey,” López Obrado declared before the press.
The governed The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, also confirmed and celebrated the investment from his social networks.
“Mexico won, NL won, WE ALL WON!”, he wrote on Twitter, shortly before sharing a photo on his Instagram account, where a Tesla and a sign with the brand of the automotive firm are seen, accompanied by the hashtag #TESLANUEVOLEÓN.

The president stressed that the project is subject to “a series of commitments to face the problem of water scarcity (in Monterrey).”
He announced that one of these commitments is that they will mainly use recycled water in the entire manufacturing process of electric cars. At the same time, there will be a water treatment “even for car paint.”
“The arrival of Tesla in the country is going to mean a considerable investment and the generation of many jobs. I want to thank Musk for being so respectful and thoughtful,” he added.
López Obrador indicated that the details of the project, such as the amount of the investment or the jobs they will generate, will be announced as of Wednesday, March 1, “out of prudence.”
He also reported that the businessman “was very receptive, understanding our concerns, and accepting our proposals, which will be made known starting tomorrow.”
