The Berlin Marathon will take place on September 25. One of the six most important events that are run in the world. This emblematic marathon has been held successfully since 1974. Its first edition brought together less than 300 runners, who have multiplied enormously over the years.
A marathon that, with the fall of the Berlin Wall, modified its route, thus uniting millions of people who until that date had lived apart.
Berlin is important for many things, but it is even more important for the reappearance of the greatest marathoner of all time. The framework will be made up of a beautiful city, thousands of spectators on the sides of the route, wide roads and a practically flat territory that make up a perfect setting for an unforgettable event.
It was precisely in Berlin where Eliud wrote history by setting the current world marathon record, stopping the clock in 2 hours, one minute and 39 seconds in the edition held in 2018. In 2019, another extraordinary man born in Kenya crossed the finish just 2 seconds later than Eliud, staying on the verge of breaking the world record. The 2020 edition was taken from us by COVID 19 and the 2021 was conquered by the Ethiopian Adola, with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 45 seconds, which with the background described looks like a “slow” result.
This 2022 edition will be really special thanks to the great opportunity that we are given to see an outstanding marathoner run once again. Let us remember that in addition to the world record, he was the only one on earth capable of running the distance of 42 kilometers and 195 meters under 2 hours.
As part of his preparation and prelude to Berlin, Eliud ran in Tokyo this year with a time of 2 hours, 2 minutes and 40 seconds, one minute and one second above his world record. Can he break his own record and set a new world record? A man who knows no limits, who has shown us that what seems impossible is not, has ample possibilities of triumph and achieving a new feat.
