Since last week FIFA 22 has been among us. The new installment of the Annual Electronic Arts Saga reigns firmly for several seasons, in addition to the criticism received by eFootball 2022, the adaptation to the free-to-play format by Konami.
In a company statement, we have learned that the intention of the company is change the name of the FIFA franchise. This is the text shared by EA:
Looking to the future, we are also exploring the idea of renaming global games from EA Sports. This means that we are reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is independent of all our other official associations and licenses throughout the world of football.
As we well know, FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) is the most important body within football and is the one that has given its name to the series since your beginnings. This possible change would not affect the licensing agreements that EA owns, that is, to be able to include the logos and official names of competitions and teams.
On the other hand, the company has celebrated the launch of FIFA 22 highlighting some of the most important figures achieved so far. 9.1 million users have already played the title, 7.6 million squads have been created in Ultimate Team mode and up to 460 million games have been played.
EA has thanked the community for this data, but they note that “while we are only at the beginning of our journey with you in the game this year, we are also focused on where we go from here“.
