- Milena Mayorga, ambassador of El Salvador to the United States, announced the government’s plans to open a ‘Bitcoin Embassy’ in Texas.
- With these offices, El Salvador seeks to expand the adoption of Bitcoin to other territories outside the country.
- This would be the second of its kind since in October of last year the government of El Salvador opened a Bitcoin embassy in Switzerland.
El Salvador continues to up its ante on Bitcoin by announcing plans to open a ‘Bitcoin Embassy’ in Texas, USA.
The news was communicated by the ambassador of El Salvador in the United States, Milena Mayorga, on Twitter. The ambassador explained that she would have kept a meeting with the Assistant Secretary of the Government of Texas, Joe Esparzato address plans to open a Bitcoin Embassy.
Although the purpose of this type of embassies was not specified, it is believed that it probably seeks the intergovernmental collaboration with the aim of creating joint projects for the adoption of Bitcoin.
Curiously it would not be the first. Last year, in October, El Salvador opened a “Bitcoin office” in Switzerland, whose objective was to spread the adoption of said cryptocurrency throughout Europe. That is, to support “initiatives to promote the adoption of Bitcoin”, as well as “to promote the exchange of students and talents between El Salvador and Lugano”, Switzerland.
A Bitcoin Embassy could be established in the United States
After the adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender, El Salvador does not seem to doubt for a second the potential of technology and cryptocurrency. This can be assumed by looking at the multiple initiatives that the country has developed around the leading cryptocurrency.
In fact, by November 2022, the country had purchased 2,381 BTC and, according to Bloomberghad paid around $105 million US dollars in total.
However, it seems that El Salvador not only wants to encourage the adoption of Bitcoin in its territory, but also wants to go beyond its borders and precisely for this reason, it is launching this new initiative of ‘Bitcoin Embassies’
In accordance with CointelegraphSamson Mow, former director of strategy at Blockstream, explained that this phenomenon is about the next step in nation-states and cities for the adoption of Bitcoin.
Texas a pro Bitcoin state
For those who may not know, Texas is a state in the United States that has declared itself pro Bitcoin. In 2021, during the Texas Blockchain Summit, Senator Ted Cruz he claimed that he would “like to see Texas become the center of the universe for bitcoin and crypto.”
Also, recently public a new bill before the Texas legislature with the aim of establishing a plan for the expansion of the blockchain industry in the territory. In accordance with Forbesthe initiative seeks to make Texas the crypto capital of the country by allowing tax-free purchases with Bitcoin.
Therefore, it is not surprising that El Salvador has managed to establish a collaboration with Texas for the creation of new pro-Bitcoin initiatives.
