Latino power comes to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe with El Muerto, a film that will star Bad Bunny, which was announced at Cinemacon 2022
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe continues to expand its horizons and its ranks are joined by one of the characters with Latin roots, El Muerto, who will lead a solo feature film, and his interpreter will be the Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny.
Within the framework of Cinemacon 2022, Sony Pictures announced that it is preparing a project alongside Marvel where Bad Bunny will play El Muerto, a character of Mexican descent, and the first Latino superhero to have his own film in the Spider-Verse. Man from Sony.
El Muerto, whose alter ego is Juan Carlos Estrada, debuted in the pages of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #6 (September 2006).
The powers and mask of the super-powerful wrestler El Muerto have been passed down from generation to generation. Each fighter had to prove himself to his oppressor, El Dorado, in order to stay alive and retain his powers.
After preparing for 10 years, El Muerto staged a mask vs. mask match against Spider-Man, whom he nearly defeated, but Spidey used his stingers to paralyze El Muerto. Spider-Man rescued El Muerto from the hospital when El Dorado, who is his enemy, came to claim his life. El Muerto helped Spider-Man defeat El Dorado.
The Dead Man joins productions from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe such as Madame Web and Kraven, both of which will be released in 2023.
