For many women, a divorce can be synonymous with emotional and financial stress. Losing the support and stability that your partner provided you is not just anything and it can bring with it a sea of emotions and concerns when your lifestyle and that of your children goes through such a radical change as a result of the separation.
However, most manage to get ahead, some even stronger, like Holly Harper, a woman who is the perfect example of struggle, empathy and entrepreneurship.
Due to her divorce, Holly Harper, a woman from Washington, DC, managed to obtain a considerable sum of money, so for a year and a half, she lived in an apartment with her daughter. But just for rent, parking, and utilities, he was spending $2,550 a month.
That’s how a brilliant idea came to her, one that without pressing it, would completely change her life and that of other women who were in the same situation as her. Holly decided that a better option would be to buy a house and share it with other single mothers, so that her investment would be recouped from the rental income.
Holly’s plan couldn’t have worked out better, as a self-employed single mother in an expensive city, she was able to become the owner of an old house from 1927 through the shared housing model after her divorce.
She found three other single mothers with the same needs as hers, with whom she lives in perfect harmony and shares her belongings, so they have access to more than they could if they lived alone.
The division of housework and expenses has helped them save thousands of dollars, they even share an emergency fund, because living in an old house, they have everything covered in case of any damage and thus not affect their monthly income.
Between the four mothers they have five children, who could not be happier because there is always someone to play with. Everything is so perfect that they decided to name their home after “mermaid house“.
Jen, one of the mothers, is a CrossFit trainer, so you could say that they enjoy gym and personal training at home.
Without a doubt, the financial, social and emotional benefits have changed the lives of these four families as they enjoy a space full of tranquility and full of happiness, a place they can call “home”.
