Electronic Arts has announced that FIFA 23 will mark the end of the renowned soccer video game saga. However, this does not mean the end of the games, rather they are officially closing the commercial agreement with the International Federation of Association Football, and the next game will be released autonomously. Consequently, they have had to carry out negotiations with the clubs, the most important leagues and the competitions to obtain the required licenses.
Electronic Arts revealed that FIFA 23 would be the end of the iconic series of soccer simulators. However, this announcement did not mean the end of the games, but that the contract with the International Federation of Association Football was being closed, and the next game was planned to be released autonomously. This meant that they had to negotiate with the clubs, major leagues and competitions to obtain their licences.
The next title will bear the name of EA Sports FC and will have a major graphical update. Despite this, no major changes are expected in terms of gameplay. Ultimate Team will continue to be the most popular game mode in the franchise and packs will continue to be sold.
The career mode, casual play, pro clubs, among others, would also be maintained. This was confirmed by Electronic Arts in the mid-2022 statement.Everything you love about our games will be part of EA SPORTS FC – the same great experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs and athletes will be there. Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs and VOLTA Football will be there. Our unique licensing portfolio of 19,000+ players, 700+ teams, 100+ stadiums, and 30 leagues that we’ve continued to invest in for decades will still be there, only at EA SPORTS FC. That includes exclusive partnerships with the Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Serie A, MLS, and more to come.”, the statement detailed.
Licensed Clubs, Leagues and Competitions at EA Sports FC
Through the game’s official portal, EA shared the list of clubs and competitions that join the launch of EA Sports FC. “The Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Women’s Champions League, LaLiga Santander, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A, CONMEBOL Libertadores, Barclays Women’s Super League, NWSL and many more are partners of EA SPORTS FC” is read on the web.
In addition, several historical clubs such as Real Madrid, Liverpool FC and Juventus FC announced their appearance in the simulator. For the moment, we will have to wait for what FC Barcelona decides to do. Let’s remember that the Catalan club has an agreement with eFootball, Konami’s free game.
Would you like to see the Kings League on EA Sports FC? Being a game outside of the agreement with FIFA, EA could be free to close agreements that do not have licenses with the highest body of world soccer. We could even see an update to Volta, the amateur game mode on dirt or pavement courts.
