The job of every doctor is to care for patients and ensure their well-being. Even from the Hippocratic Oath the base of this noble profession is established. Disadvantages appear when the workload exceeds the capabilities of a person. This results in long waiting lines and in the end the doctors are exhausted both physically and emotionally. It is a situation that is becoming more and more recurrent, especially in countries like Mexico where a deficit of health personnel prevails.
Although it is not all because a year ago a new enemy was added that remains active in society. It is the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the cause of one of the most serious pandemics of the modern era. The health crisis remains in force due to the constant outbreaks that have emerged around the planet.
To deal with this problem, it was possible to develop vaccines that aim to reduce the chances of severe stages of Covid-19. None is perfect but at least they greatly reduce the risk of dying. But although this is a breakthrough, now he must fight new adversaries. It is about all the people who refuse to receive immunization.
Wrong beliefs are multiplying all over the world
In this sense, in a little more than two decades the anti-vaccine groups. Without scientific support, they claim that all types of inoculation are harmful. They first claimed that there was a presumed relationship to cases of autism and now they believe in conspiracy theories. The problem is that although their arguments have been shown to be false, the movement remains active and has even grown in number.
To date, the United States is one of the countries where there are more people with this type of mentality. Although the nation has a sufficient number of vaccines against Covid-19, there are inhabitants who refuse to receive immunization.
For its part, Alabama is one of the points where this idea has the greatest apogee. This translates into the low percentage of the vaccinated population compared to other states in the country.
Good or bad idea?
To help combat this mentality and also as a form of personal protection a doctor had an idea. It is about Dr. Jason Valentine, who posted a sign outside his office located in the city of Mobile. “As of October 1, 2021, Dr. Valentine will no longer serve patients who are not vaccinated against Covid-19.”
The photograph with the advertisement has been viralized through social networks and most of the comments are in favor of the health professional. Many recognize him for the effort he has made since the start of the pandemic and support his initiative.
In this regard, it is necessary to remember that various studies have shown the risk faced by health workers during their daily activities. Even with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) they are vulnerable to being infected at any time.
Although one of the obligations of any doctor is not to discriminate and offer the same quality of service to all patients, it is also necessary to consider the safety of each of the doctors. For the same reason, it has been pointed out that more health professionals, both in the United States and other parts of the world, might consider placing similar signs outside their offices.
