While it’s been several years since the annual iterations of the franchise Call of Duty they leave us a little cold, this could change soon. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is preparing to be one of the most ambitious titles in the entire saga, and a new leak seems to throw more details on how its multiplayer mode works.
So far, we know that DMZ mode ushers in a whole new style of gameplay to the franchise. Through a so-called “ultra-realistic” approach, enemies and teammates would die with just one or two shots, depending on the area of the body affected. Likewise, if you have brought equipment onto the battlefield and subsequently die, it will be lost forever. The only way to get more weapons would be to buy them, or find them in the game.
Many claimed that this DMZ mode was another way to integrate the free-to-play to the franchise. However, according to statements by Tom Henderson, famous insider of the world of video games, this would not be the case. If you want to access DMZ from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you would have to pay.
Tom Henderson, through a post on TryHardGuides, so confirms it. According to the analyst, Activision’s current plan is not to deliver a title free to play. In fact, Henderson claims that rumors claiming to “confirm” the opposite are causing quite a bit of frustration among those associated with the title’s development. The reason would be in the creation of false expectations among the fans, and how harmed the game could end when these are not met.

Also, Henderson reports that rumors about the DMZ mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 they are being exaggerated. In fact, many media outlets are painting it as something on the same level of difficulty as Escape from Tarkov. The sources close to the development of the title, on the other hand, differ from this vision, assuring that it is about a modality that will be built over time.
Will DMZ have similarities with Escape from Tarkov? Yes absolutely. Like the latter, DMZ would be a pull based mode. However, it seems that Activision wants to keep the doors open to be able to evolve this new modality over time.
If the DMZ mode of Modern Warfare 2 could become in the future free to playThat is something that remains to be seen. However, the current plans would be to include this form of game within the full title.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 opens this October 28, 2022. Some rumors say that it would arrive in 2023, but it seems that it is a confusion with another current work of Activision, called “Project Nexus“.
