The new remake of a Disney animation classic has just been confirmed and… The controversy is already served! Fear among the fans!
Disney is making a live-action remake of The Aristocats. The animated classic, based on the story of Tom McGown and Tom Rowe, was released in 1970 by the original Walt Disney studio. It tells the story of a family of Persian cats who inherit a huge fortune. However, they will be forced to find their way back home with the help of a stray cat who speaks with a very sweet and soft voice. They were previously abandoned by the butler of the owner from whom they inherit the money, who kidnapped them and abandoned them in the middle of the field.
As reported Comic Book, the animation studio is now developing a live-action remake of this beloved children’s classic. The script for the new Aristocats movie will be in the hands of Will Gluck (Peter Rabbit) and Keith Bunin (Onward). The production will be in the hands of Olive Bridge Entertainment. The details about the project of this new Disney remake are still very scarce, since it is in an early development phase. Most likely, it will have a similar appearance to the new “live action” version of Lady and the Tramp, which can already be seen on the streaming platform.
The precedent of Cats has raised the alarms with this remake
This is really the reason for the controversy. A movie of cats behaving like humans and recreated with CGI? People have inevitably thought of Cats, Tom Hooper’s critically acclaimed musical, widely regarded as one of the worst movies of recent years. Let’s hope that finally we don’t see something similar with The Aristocats, because we wouldn’t be really disappointed.
However, having the precedent of The Lion King we can be a little calmer. The positive part is that they will not work with “humans posing as cats”, as was the case with Cats. Here we will simply have “animals behaving like humans.” In classic animation it is sold very well, it is easy to empathize with them. In flesh and blood it is a very different thing.
