Did Michael Jackson work on the soundtrack for sonic the hedgehog 3? For decades, this has been one of the biggest questions fans of the blue hedgehog have had. Although in 2009, Brad Buxer, composer and music director for Jackson, had mentioned that this was the case, there was no official confirmation from anyone directly involved in the game. Well, this has changed, as Sonic’s co-creator has finally confirmed that the King of Pop did write music for sonic the hedgehog 3.
Through his official Twitter account, Yuji Naka, co-creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, confirmed that Michael Jackson was originally going to compose music for the third installment of this characterand even noted that SEGA has used his work in multiple re-releases.
Nevertheless, Sonic Origins, the collection that includes four fantastic games of the blue hedgehog, has modified this, and Jackson’s work has been removed entirely. This was what Naka commented on it:
“OMG, Sonic 3’s music has changed, even though SEGA Official uses Michael Jackson’s music.”
Oh my god, the music for Sonic 3 has changed, even though SEGA Official uses Michael Jackson’s music.

Thus, the music on Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base is completely different, with SEGA used newer versions of the prototypes prior to Jackson’s involvement. What’s the score? Well, this video offers a good comparison that makes it clear that the work of the King of Pop is superior.
Why did Michael Jackson leave this project? Although it had originally been mentioned that the musician’s scandals during the 90s were responsible for this fracture with SEGA, Buxer mentioned that the King of Pop was not happy with the limitations that the Genesis had.
sonic origins is now available on all consolesand it seems that the only big problem that this collection offers is the lack of the original compositions in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. On related topics, sonic frontiers will be the future of the series, confirms SEGA. Similarly, the duration of this game has been revealed.
Editor’s Note:
It’s a real shame these changes. The original music is infinitely superior to the new versions. Considering that other collections do have these songs, I hope that this is a licensing issue that soon has a favorable solution for fans.
