Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the real estate sector has proven to be one of the strongest and most resistant economies, according to the survey: “Real estate trends and purchases from the start of the pandemic to the new normal”, carried out by the portal Real Estate Vivanuncios more than 80% of the interviewees admitted that they were looking to buy a house.
“It is a fact that the intention to buy a house still in a pandemic is increasingly on the rise, since 83% of those surveyed have intentions to acquire a home, even with the complicated outlook that Covid-19 has brought,” said Roberto Esses, General Director of Vivanuncios during the 5th. InCON Real Estate Summit 2021.
Among the real estate trends it was shown that a 68% of those surveyed are looking for a house type dwelling, against 21% who are looking for an apartment. Similarly, when asked about what amenities they consider essential, almost half think that the most important thing is to have a patio or terrace.
“In this sense, the health context becomes clear. The need to spend more time at home, which together with the medical recommendations to stay active, has led buyers to have a preference for homes with larger recreational spaces: gardens, patios and terraces, as opposed to the inclinations towards the search of small apartments in the center of the city, ”added Esses.

Among the outstanding data, it stands out that the 40% of those who responded to the survey were older people, between 50 and 59 years old; 51% are married and live with their spouse. In addition, 56% are employees with a fixed salary and a bachelor’s degree and 70% have children.
“Older generations have greater financial stability, which allows them to make more solid purchase plans. This is exactly what is observed in our results, which show that for half of the interviewees there was no need to reduce their budget to buy a house in the pandemic; 73% did not have the need to move out of their home and 59% did not change their space needs within the home “.
On an economic level, access to good quality mortgage loans is the main tool for these people to sustain the expense of acquiring a property since the population plans to buy a house in a pandemic, through financing granted by Infonavit or Fovissste, and there are also those who have the capacity to do so in cash.
The purchasing power is reflected in the price of the homes they want to buy, since 26% are looking to purchase a luxury home (valued at more than two million pesos), which represents a relative majority with respect to those who are looking for a residential or average home (which are around a value of one million pesos).
