Meanwhile, Yoel said his paycheck meant he would “finally have a chance to improve” his life.
“In Cuba, you get a paycheck and you know you never get better. It would be the same. This time, I can finally dream: I can help my family and this is the first step in my new life where I can be whoever I want now,” Yoel Díaz told local media.
In October 2021, it was reported that the average salary in Cuba was barely 18 percent, higher than the estimated value of the basic food basket in Havana.
