Chris Rock said he will talk about the Will Smith slap only if he gets paid.
He expressed it, as a joke, in one of the stand-up shows he conducted this weekend in the United States.
You have to remember that Smith was suspended by the Academy which organizes the Oscars last Friday. The penalty is 10 years.
Rock spoke of the subject in the presentation he offered at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Palm Springs.
Although it is understood that it was as a joke, because the stand up that he leads is particularly ironic in all the content, the American media echoed the words because so far he had only said that he was not prepared to comment on the subject.
As published Desert Sun, Rock was clear towards the future. “I’m fine. I have a very good show and I’m not going to talk about what happened at the Oscars until I get paid. Life is good and I already got my hearing back,” said the comedian.
The slap that altered the delivery of the Oscars 2022
It must be remembered that on Sunday, March 27, when the Academy Awards were being delivered, the presenter referred to the disease (alopecia) suffered by Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of Will Smith.
It was then that the actor, upset by the comedian’s reference, climbed onto the platform where Rock was and slapped him in front of the cameras, with millions of viewers watching what was happening at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
During this weekend’s show, Chris Rock made no other mention of what happened with Will Smith at the Oscars.
in the show, he did make fun of companies that seek to “embrace diversity” at all costs only “as a marketing strategy.”
There is no record of Rock’s references because the rule of the comedian’s shows is that no one can bring phones into the room or record audio or take photos.
Will Smith’s sanction
The Academy decided on Friday, April 8, to sanction Will Smith with the 10 year suspension participation in events held by the entity, including the Oscars.
“The Board called a meeting to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars. In addition to accepting the actor’s resignation, the Board decided, for a period of ten years from April 8, 2022, that Mr. Smith will not be allowed to attend any Academy event or program, in person or virtually, including the Academy Awards”, says the officially released text.
