Arriving as part of a free update accompanying the next major expansion of The Sims 4, High School Years, to be released on July 28, the feature will add a new Sexual Orientation tab to the game’s Create-A-Sim screen. Here, the player will have the opportunity to play with three settings that will affect how Sims interact with others in the game.
The first option allows players to choose whether a Sim is romantically attracted to men, women, both, or neither, meaning they will reject romantic advances made by Sims who don’t fit that profile.

As a second option a Sim will also have the opportunity to decide if they are still exploring romantically and can be used by those who are still discovering things. If this option is set to ‘yes’, a Sim’s orientation may change over time, as they encounter new situations, hang out with more people, etc.
Lastly, the final option in the new version allows players to decide whether a Sim is interested in physical intimacy with men, women, both, or neither. Maxis, its creator, says the hope is that this option, when used in conjunction with the romance scenarios, will give players more flexibility in creating characters that relate to both asexual and aromatic identities.
While ultimately each business will forge its own path to inclusive and accessible marketing, experts agree that some best practices apply universally, including diversification and cultural empowerment.
