As women In a world predominantly run by men, I have faced challenges and prejudices in my quest to improve my management skills. leadership. However, as I have reflected and explored this topic, I have come to understand that my unique perspective as a woman can bring significant value to any team or organization, as I mention in the corporate courses I teach and also in how I approach leadership. positive in my book “Active Happiness”.
One of the most notable differences between men’s and women’s leadership lies in communication and decision-making styles. According to a study from Columbia University, women tend to favor a more collaborative and consensus-oriented approach compared to men, who often adopt a more directive and hierarchical style.
This means that, as leading womanI have the ability to foster an inclusive work environment where diverse opinions are valued and the participation of all team members is promoted.
This does not mean that men cannot develop it, of course they can, but it is more natural for women.
Collaborative approach
Additionally, research conducted by Harvard University suggests that women tend to be more empathetic and have greater emotional intelligence, allowing them to better understand the needs and concerns of their colleagues. This ability to empathize can strengthen relationships within the team and improve group morale and cohesion.
Another important aspect to consider is the diversity of thought that the presence of women in leadership roles brings. A McKinsey & Company report found that companies with greater gender diversity in their senior management tend to be more profitable and have superior financial performance compared to those that lack gender diversity. This is in part because diversity of perspectives can lead to more informed and creative decision-making, which in turn drives innovation and business growth.
Furthermore, women leaders can also serve as inspiring role models for other women and girls, something we certainly need to boost the generations that come after us.
Seeing women occupy leadership positions in various fields can help break down gender stereotypes and motivate more women to pursue their career goals regardless of perceived barriers.
According to a report by the International Labor Organization, Empowering women in the workplace is not only a matter of equity, but can also contribute significantly to economic growth and sustainable development.
My commitments to my leadership as a woman
In my quest to improve my leadership as a woman, I am committed to continuing to develop my communication skills, empathy and collaborative decision making. I am always looking for opportunities to expand my network and make meaningful connections with other women leaders who can serve as mentors and role models.
I also talk about this in my courses for organizations, promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace, recognizing and valuing the unique contributions that each person, regardless of gender, can bring to the team.
Although we face unique challenges as women in leadership roles, we also have the opportunity to play a transformative and meaningful role in our organizations and communities. By leveraging our unique strengths and working together to overcome obstacles, we can help create a more equitable, inclusive and prosperous world for all people.
