In the month of March 2022, sales of new cars in Europe have accounted for a total of 1,116,419 units. A volume of registrations that, compared to that registered in the same period last year, represents a drop of 19%. Tesla has been one of the most prominent brands surpassing Dacia. The Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling car in Europe.
The European automobile market worsens its fall in the month of March 2022. The car sales in Europe have reached the 1,116,419 units. This number of registered horses, if compared with the data obtained in the same period of time the previous year, represents a 19% decline. There are several factors that continue to have a negative influence on the commercial future of the automobile sector in the Old Continent.
The stock crisis in dealerships due to the global shortage of microchips is still present. In addition, and in the specific case of the European market, we must add the war situation that exists in the Ukrainian territory. The reason? Certain components used by vehicle production centers in Europe come from Ukraine.
The poor results achieved during the previous months weigh heavily on the accumulated figures. Between the months of January and March new car registrations have accumulated 2,725,497 units, 11% less than in 2021. It is the lowest level of enrollment since 1985.
The popularity of electrified cars continues to grow
In March plug-in hybrid and 100% electric cars surpassed diesel with 244,801 new registrations, compared to 202,113 units of the latter. Sales of plug-in and electric hybrids grew by 10% while diesel saw their records fall by 39% respectively.
Registrations of low-emission vehicles have been boosted in markets as important as the United Kingdom and France. All this with the support of Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and Denmark, other markets where these vehicles already hold a significant and consolidated share.
Battery electric cars alone accounted for 62% of all low-emission vehicle registrations in March, with sales up 46%. A growth that has been key to offsetting the 22% drop in plug-in hybrid sales with 93,100 units in March.
