For years, fans of Zack Snyder have searched for a way for the filmmaker to complete his vision of the so-called “SnyderVerse.” Following the way Warner Bros. treated the director’s works (mainly batman vs superman and League of Justice), there has been much speculation about how another study could continue their work. Recently the #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix which, as its name suggests, intends for the platform to take over Snyder’s vision, but is this possible?
In an interview for the YouTube channel The Film Junkeethe filmmaker was questioned about the possibility that said hashtag can come true. Although thousands of tweets have been published about it, Snyder himself acknowledges that this is impossible. The reason? He has no control over the DC characters.
“What is probably surprising to learn is that my influence on those things is very small. The truth is, I mean, it would be amazing if… Whatever control there is over intellectual property, I don’t… That’s not my part, that’s not my role [decidir la venta de derechos]. That is, as they say, above my salary level.”.
For now, Zack Snyder is concentrating on the event that will celebrate his work at DC. At the end of April there will be a screening of the man of steel (which this June celebrates 10 years of having been released), batman vs supermanand Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The latter will be screened, for the first time, in a cinema and in IMAX format.
Although that raised the hopes of many followers, the answer is clear. There is NO way that the SnyderVerse can be sold to some platform of streaming. There are rights to Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, but the SnyderVerse isn’t even considered intellectual property by itself. There’s no way Warner Bros. Discovery is going to sell (or share) the rights to their characters when they have a Universe planned around them.
Fortunately, the director of Sucker Punch and Watchman he has words of thanks to Warner for allowing the projection of his tapes.
“I will say one thing: Warner Bros, as far as this screening/event goes, has been amazing. This group now goes above and beyond with kindness and caring and personal treatment and they have been amazing to work with so no complaints. Other than that, as far as creativity and what they’re planning, I’ve honestly been busy shooting this movie. [Rebel Moon]. I have no idea what they are filming [en el DCU]”, he added.
For now, Snyder is in the post-production of the aforementioned rebel moonwhich will premiere next December 23, 2023, and could lead to the new epic Netflix saga. Do you think one day your fans will stop their efforts to continue the SnyderVerse?
