The last days have been very intense for Flash. The new super production from DC and Warner Bros. has caught the attention of journalists and fans due to the appearance of its new trailer and the first reactions after its official screening at CinemaCon. Now, new statements by Andy Muschietti, its director, have revealed the possibility that one day a special cut of Flash, which would last four hours. Will it be necessary to promote the #ReleaseTheMuschiettiCut?
Last Monday took place in Los Angeles a Q&A with various members of the international press at the Warner Bros. facilities. There, Andy and Barbara Muschietti answered questions from the attendees and clarified certain doubts about the film. After two years of post production, reshoots and changes in history, it is evident that Flash It has material to create an alternative cut to the one that will be presented in movie theaters. This was commented by the Argentine filmmaker in this regard (via Entertainment Weekly):
“If you see the version of the movie that lasts four hours, which was my first montage, you will see everything I left out. I’m definitely happier with this version than the four hour one. You get excited and you start improvising with the actors, and suddenly you have a scene that has doubled the length that was planned when the script was posted. But it happens all the time.”
Curiously, it is not the first time that Muschietti has promoted an extended version of his projects. A few years ago, when he promoted It: Chapter Two, the director confirmed that the end of the Pennywise story also lasted four hours in its first cut. He even commented on the possibility of creating a 6-hour movie uniting both chapters of the plot based on Stephen King’s book. And as for DC, the story is more than well known. In 2021, Zack Snyder was finally able to release his version of the League of Justice just as he conceived it from the beginning, and it also lasted four hours. When asked if the same thing could happen to him, Muschietti replied:
“Maybe. We had another three and a half hour outage, and then another that lasted five hours. Then you have to face editing and say, ‘Okay, we need to cut an hour and a half out of this movie, how is it going to happen?’ At the end of the six months, it’s fun. At first, it’s just chaos. Whatever you start doing is wrong because it’s all trial and error, and you try a lot of things.”
In the end, Muschietti affirms that the final version of the film is the one that best meets his needs as a filmmaker and those of the studio. After much controversy with his protagonist, changes around the DC board, and speculation about the future of the character, it seems that Warner Bros. played the game. The first reactions from the specialized press and some fans are unbeatable, and will surely help make the film a success.
“This is really the best version of the movie. There are things that are interesting if you watch the deleted scenes at a certain point. But there are some more interesting than others. Certain things are cooler than others, but they slowed down the movie, which is something you should always keep in mind.”
Flashstarring Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Maribel Verdú and Ron Livingstonwill hit theaters in Latin America next June, 15. Will it give DC a much-needed win?
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
