Fans of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild may be surprised to learn that carrying Link “naked” can make it a lot easier for them to get around the in-game shrines. This reveal is just one of many that have come to light in the years since the title’s release, with players regularly making new discoveries about Breath of the Wild’s world, mechanics, and combat.
Now, a video shared by the Twitter user, Aqua, shows the protagonist, running between jets of flames in the Sanctuary Rinu Honika. While these flames would be an insurmountable obstacle most of the time, this speedrunner found that by strip to link down to his underpants and make skillful use of a Blizzard Wand to lower the temperature, the sanctuary’s threat level drops to zero.
While this might come as a surprise to many fans of the game, it is actually perfectly consistent with the game’s core mechanics and systems. As one of the elemental weapons of breath of the wild, the Blizzard Rod can make hot areas hospitable with a gust of icy wind. Instead of being “crazy fashion,” the skimpy attire of link eliminates the risk of flames sticking to the fabric of your clothing.
While this can be explained by what players know about the game, it’s still amazing that new details are being discovered so long after its release. The game turns five years old, and it will be interesting to see what else players can discover about this interpretation of Hyrule over the years. Let’s hope that the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can offer even more interesting details like this.
