The Brazilian sports authorities confirmed this Friday the provisional suspension of the player of the women’s volleyball team Tandara Caixeta, after testing positive for a type of anabolic, which is why she had to leave the concentration of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Caixeta He has already missed the semifinal of the Olympic event against South Korea, in which Brazil won 3-0 this Friday, and will not be in the decision for the gold medal against the United States team either.
The Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD) reported that the player tested positive in a test carried out before the start of the Olympic Games, on July 7, at the national team’s training center, in Saquarema, in the state from Rio de Janeiro (southeast).
The result of the analysis arrived on August 5 and the presence of the substance ostarin was detected in it, which, according to the Brazilian anti-doping code, leads to the immediate provisional suspension of the athlete.
Ostarine, the Brazilian entity indicated in the note, belongs to the class of “anabolic agents” and its use is prohibited both “in competition and outside of it.”
According to TV Globo, Caixeta, who has already left the Japanese capital to return to Brazil, alleges that the positive could be due to a drug that he took on those days to control the menstrual cycle.
The Brazilian team managed to overcome this setback and successfully defeated South Korea 3-0 in the semifinals of Tokyo 2020, where they will fight for gold again nine years after reaching the top of the podium for the last time.
