Entrepreneurs such as Carlos Slim and Carlos Bremer sent congratulatory greetings to the Mexican government and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for the inauguration of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), this Monday, March 21.
National and international flights began to take off and land at the AIFA after the authorities officially declared the air station at the former Santa Lucía base open.
On the occasion, members of AMLO’s cabinet, governors (related and opposition political forces) and renowned Mexican businessmen were present.
One of those who congratulated AMLO was Carlos Slim, who described the work as a “spectacular construction.” He also said that he was surprised by the time in which it was performed.
Regarding the delay in getting from CDMX to Santa Lucía, and contrary to what he once declared about this, this time he said that he “did little” to get to AIFA.
Patricia Armendáriz, a legislator from Morena and in charge of the direction of Sustainable Finance, said that it is a “useful and modernist” air station.
Carlos Bremer, popularly recognized for his appearances on the Shark Tank business show and promoter, among other companies, of Value, said in the new AIFA that it is a “work of art.”
Carlos Hank, president of the Banorte holding company and co-founder of the Gruma company, said he was “surprised” that the air terminal on the outskirts of Mexico City had been completed in a timely manner and that it has “very impressive” facilities.
The governor of the State of Mexico, Alfredo del Mazo, a PRI man, said that it is “the most relevant infrastructure work completed in Mexico so far in the 21st century.”
Emilio Azcárraga Jean, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Televisa, praised the short time it takes to get to the AIFA, “about 50 minutes,” he said.
Francisco Cervantes Díaz, head of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) and Founder of the Business Council of the Valley of Mexico, said he was happy for the opportunities given to the Mexican industry to be part of the construction industry.
Omar Fayad, governor of Hidalgo and a member of the National Action Party, described the work as a point of entry to get to know other regions of Mexico.
The new air terminal officially began its functions at 11 a.m. on March 21 in a ceremony headed by AMLO.
critics
In contrast, Denise Dresser, a Mexican political scientist and writer, denounced that “the Santa Lucía airport does not belong to the Nation or to the people of Mexico: it belongs to the army.”
“Military build it, manage it, award contracts, protect information that should be public, and pocket the profits,” he said.
The PAN deputy Gabriel Quadri, for his part, said after the inauguration that AMLO will go to jail for the “astronomical damage he has done” to the country. On Twitter, he highlighted Santa Lucía, Dos Bocas and Tren Maya as “absurd works”. He also spoke of “corruption, indebtedness, militarization and collusion with crime and the destruction of the health system.”
Trademarks in the AIFA
Brands such as BBVA, Urbanus, Starbucks, Subway and other restaurants already operate in the AIFA and the arrival of some others such as Domino’s, Vip’s, Burger King and Italianni’s is expected.
In total, the AIFA said that it has 266 commercial premises. Of these, only 58 have been leased.
