Catalonia already has new beach volleyball champions. Badalona’s Puente del Petróleo beach has been the scene of the grand finale of the Catalonia Beach Volleyball Championship Vichy Catalan Volleyball Tour and where the couples who have achieved the precious title have met. Nazaret Florián and Nuria Bouza, in the female category, and Hernán Tovar and Rolando Hernández, in the masculine, they have been the winners.
Maximum emotion and equality in the women’s final. While the first set was won by the 2020 Catalan champions, Erika Kliokmanaite and Kadri Puri, with some dominance, in the second set they have been Nazaret Florián and Nuria Bouza those who have pressed the accelerator to equalize the score. The tiebreaker set was a heart attack where it was necessary to reach point 24, the tie break should end at point 15, to decide which would be the pair that would climb to the top of the podium. With different match balls for the two couples, it was finally the Madrid and the Galician who closed the match and won the title of champions of Catalonia.
The men’s final, played between Venezuelans Hernán Tovar and Rolando Hernández, and ‘los comecocos’ Elio Carrodeguas and Dexter Edwars, has also been decided in the third set. Absolute dominance of the young players of CV San Pere i Sant Pau and many inaccuracies of Tovar and Hernández, have made the first set go to Carrodeguas – Edwards. The tables have turned in the second set, which has led to a new tie break and new possibilities for the two couples to continue fighting for the title. Although they have been very even at the beginning of the set, Hernán Tovar and Rolando Hernández have shown why they have been the champions of the five tests they have contested and, in Badalona, they have added a new victory and the title of champions of Catalonia. In this case, Hernán Tovar has won the title for the second time.
The third positions have been for Carla Martínez and Marta García, in the female category, and for Vicente Monfort and Zdravko Kamenov, in the male. The ‘Perfect Match’, award that delivers Vichy Catalan, for the best player and the best player of the tournament, has been for Nazaret Florián and Hernán Tovar. The awards ceremony was attended by Xavier Garcia Albiol, mayor of Badalona; Irene González, fourth deputy mayor of Badalona; Rosa del Amo, councilor for communication and tourism; Cristina Mercader, Product Manager of Vichy Catalan; Franz Eiselt, managing director of Hormann: and Maribel Zamora, president of the Catalan Volleyball Federation.
With this ninth round the Vichy Catalan Volleyball Tour circuit comes to an end, which has had a total of nine rounds and which has passed through Barcelona, Vilanova y la Geltrú, Torredembarra, Tarragona, Cunit, Cambrils and Empuriabrava, and which has ended in the Badalona Petroleum Bridge beach. It has also been possible thanks to the sponsorship of Vichy Catalan, Televisió de Catalunya and Creativialab; and the collaboration of all the City Councils of the cities that have hosted it, as well as Hörmann, Score Tech, Wilson, Securitas, Fundació Ametller and Beim Supergelato. Also thank the staging of the L’Assaig School of Dance and Performing Arts that has participated in the Badalona final.
