Bosch has also attended the IAA 2021 Munich Motor Show. The automotive components giant has presented an interesting novelty, a universal and lighter charging cable for electric cars. An important solution that allows a fast charge of up to 22 kW of power.
Electric car charging cables are one of the owners’ headaches, since not all are the same, nor do they all admit the same power, nor do they adapt to all charging points. A reality that Bosch has solved by presenting a new standard charging cable valid for all electric vehicles on the market, which will also save a bit of money with the originals.
On sale in 2022, the component giant has presented this charging cable in the technology framework of the Munich IAA 2021 Hall, pointing out that it is also 40% lighter than those provided by manufacturers, weighing only 3 kilograms. The manufacturer points out that the universal cable has all its components redesigned to a smaller scale, having a specific control unit inside the connector that is plugged into the car.

The new cable is an interesting solution for those who have two cables, one for fast charging points and the other for domestic sockets, so it is possible to connect to currents single-phase and three-phase with a maximum load power of 22 kW. In addition, it also adds the particularity of energy losses or protection against network overloads and heating, continuing with the charging process but lowering the power supply to 2.3 kW.
Bosch has implemented its most advanced technology to allow type 2 loads in alternating current and also type 3. In the first type, one end contains the load monitoring devices, while in the other it has a temperature sensor and a residual current device the components that prevent overheating. In fact, it is prepared to stop the charging process with a security mode if the situation requires it.
The new cable will be sold both to manufacturers who want it as well as to individuals, from mid-2022 onwards. Uwe Gackstatter, president of Bosch’s Power Train Solutions division, stated that “We want the new cable to be standard equipment for electric vehicles. With this universal charging cable, customers will have complete freedom to choose whether to recharge from an electrical outlet at home or from a charging station on the road.
