The Blockchain development platform, Polygon, through its ally in social issues, Impact+, met with specialists at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, with the aim of showing; on the one hand, the development that the crypto asset market has been having in the region, and on the other hand, to discuss sustainability, environmental and social impact problems that blockchain technology has had in Colombia and LATAM.
The platform used by some of the largest companies in the world, including Stripe and Adobe, arrived in Latin America to participate in the DevCon 2022 event, where great leaders of the Blockchain industry met worldwide who are setting the tone in the digital market and the use of the internet, where among other things; Polygon urged “the importance that social impact issues should have on the agenda of all web3 companies.”
The blockchain development company, Polygon highlighted in particular, three themes that it can contribute to environmental sustainability using “blockchain” technology, which meet current needs, without compromising future generations.
1 – Colombia and the transition to hydrocarbons
Within the meeting, one of the key aspects that was carried out was the action of seeking how Eliminate the exploitation of fossil fuels and carry out the energy transition in Colombia.
As is well known, this is due to the situation that the Colombian nation is going through, which maintains a division in the region, among those who consider that by eliminating exploitation and production, the country’s energy security is put at risk, and among those who suppose the need to change fiscal and commercial dynamics of the New Granada region.
In this regard, Eduardo Peris Deprez from Polygon, stated how blockchain technology helps the environment, and also stressed how the platform is involved with the environment, with which they have work pillars and an execution roadmap, sufficiently clear.
One of the benefits of blockchain technology is that it allows the collection of data on the different phases of the manufacture of a product, to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and/or control the origin and management of materials and processes. , without the final information being manipulated.
“We conduct research and publish regularly on how to support impact causes through the blockchain, generating data that can be quantified,” said Polygon’s Deprez.
Likewise, he indicated the importance of supporting pilot projects that serve as a great help to collaborate within the ecosystem.
“Support pilot projects financially but also in education and development. We make a joint effort with international NGOs and their innovation/blockchain funds” stressed.
2- Empower local communities in the Amazon area, under the premise that the locals are the guardians of the Amazon for working in a balanced way with nature.
Under this hypothesis, se is supporting the creation of spaces with practical opportunities to learn and work; insert local talent in ReFi projects, In addition, through tools, projects and assets based on blockchain technology, it is intended to assist Aboriginal people to increase awareness about the web3.
And also, it helps to provide solid training for Aboriginal DEVs, building technological skills on the ground and thus taking the discussion to the field.
3- Polygon Impact Tech House
In a scenario of marginalized neighborhoods, where every day there are more young people who do not have access to education, and even less, to a technological education, brings with it, as a consequence, the little possibility of being able to enter the industry. Polygon, proposes a series of strategies that will allow the insertion of this young potential in the industry:
- Polygon Tech Centers will be developed into Community Centers with a proven track record of sustainability and strong leadership in various locations across Latam.
- Working with the Polygon game ecosystem…There’s nothing better than playing!
- Trainings and meetings will be provided, involving the entire Web3 community
Your commitment to the environment
The company confirmed how committed it is to the environment, and how through blockchain technology the effects of climate change can be combated in the world.
For his part, Antoni Martin from Polygon emphasized how the platform is advancing the transition from Ethereum to PoS, which will reduce the network’s energy consumption by almost 99%.
“Thus, after the transition from Ethereum to PoS, and once the CCRI analysis is complete, Polygon will go beyond carbon neutrality to achieve carbon negative status,” he emphasized.
