Sam Altman and the people of OpenAI Not long ago they presented their most recent advance: GPT-4 Turbo, a corrected and increased version of its Artificial Intelligence that promises a significant leap in relation to what we know now. But Bill Gates seems not even impressed with the potential and future GPT-5.
In an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblattthe billionaire philanthropist who co-founded Microsoft shared his thoughts on the future of artificial intelligence (AI), expressing optimism about AI’s potential to improve the lives of people around the world, but also warned of some potential risks.
We are at the entrance of a new era where companies like Sam Altman’s, along with Google, Apple and even Baidu are ready with their systems and projects within the industry to meet the needs of the market.
But whoever was responsible for revolutionizing the computer industry seems to see things a little differently.
Bill Gates dismisses OpenAI: he believes GPT-5 will not be better than the current ChatGPT
In the talk, compiled by Indian Express with the Journal Gates noted that generative AI, a branch of AI that focuses on creating new data, has seen rapid progress in recent years.
However, he believes that GPT technology, which is one of the most popular forms of such generative AI, has come to a relative standstill:
“There are many reasons to believe that GPT technology has stagnated,” he said. “The jump from GPT-2 to GPT-4 was incredible, but I don’t think GPT-5 is going to be much better.”
Bill Gates believes this paralysis is due to the fact that generative AI is technically based on large language models, which are expensive and difficult to train. So the costs of computing power or semiconductors are still enormous for the current dynamics of the sector.
However, the philanthropist also believes that generative Artificial Intelligence will have a great impact in different areas in the long term. Particularly in the health sector and climate change.
Man in general remains optimistic about the future of Artificial Intelligence. However, Gates also acknowledged that AI comes with some potential risks.
There is fear about its application in fields such as the military, terrorism or even the manipulation of information.
For this reason, it is important not to lose sight of potential risks.
