Call of Duty: Warzone, like the main installments in the series, features a prestige leveling system. However, fans of Call of Duty: Warzone have been quite critical of the game’s approach to progression, so some recent feedback from Raven Software seems promising.
The Prestige System Call of Duty: Warzone is common to all modern titles, allowing players to level up regardless of which game they choose. Although this sounds great on paper, there are downsides to the format. Each season, players will have access to three or four levels of Prestige, and they will have to constantly play to get them. With no end in sight, many fans miss the old style of a level that is attainable and finite.
With games like Deep Rock Galactic handling prestige systems better, it couldn’t be more apparent that change is needed. Fortunately, Raven Software seems to agree with the Call of Duty community’s criticism of prestige, as the studio’s developers responded to FaZe Swagg’s criticism in a recent Q&A.
According to the streamer, “there’s no reason to want to level up” as Prestige just keeps coming and there’s no end goal to reach as players have to wait for a new season to start in order to continue leveling up.
According to Raven Software, this criticism is “entirely fair”, with the developer admitting that the game-as-a-service style of the new prestige system has hurt players’ interest in leveling up. Although the developer notes that prestige is less intimidating now, as everyone is “on the same page” when ranks reset at the start of a season, Raven admits that “the value of leveling up loses a bit of sense”. Hopefully, players may be interested in the Prestige system again soon.
While no details have been provided on how Call of Duty’s prestige system will be adjusted, Raven did tell FaZe Swagg that “a review is the best way to describe it.” No word on when these changes will arrive, either, as “in the future” was all the developer was willing to reveal.
However, with Call of Duty: Warzone 2 underway, its release could mark the debut of the updated prestige system. As this is a “revised” system and not scrapped, the changes will likely apply to all active Call of Duty games.
