Dacia’s first electric car is achieving notable commercial success. The sales figures for the Dacia Spring in Europe allow a high level of optimism regarding Dacia’s commitment to fully electric mobility. Is there a new model on the agenda? What is known about Dacia’s next electric car? We collect all available information.
The arrival on the market Dacia spring has undoubtedly been a new milestone in the history of the successful brand Dacia. The company set itself the ambitious challenge of creating an affordable electric car. A model with which to enter the world of fully electric mobility without losing its original philosophy and heritage. The result has been a model that is reaping notable commercial success.
the Spring, a small 100% electric SUV that deals in segment A, is obtaining very important sales figures throughout the European territory. It was the fourteenth best-selling electric car in Europe in 2021, surpassing the barrier of 27,000 registered units. A result that allowed it to surpass models as relevant as the Peugeot e-2008.
In the specific case of the Spanish market, the Spring has landed in dealerships generating a lot of interest. The Romanian brand has played the trick of offering an emission-free urban mobility solution at a reasonable price. Last year the Spring was the best-selling electric room in Spain with 1,059 units sold. In this case, it surpassed the Peugeot e-208 and stayed close to the Renault ZOE.
After the success of the Spring, will Dacia launch a new electric car?
In the short term the Spring range will be completed. The new Dacia Spring Cargo, the commercial vehicle type variant, will soon be introduced. The Dacia’s strategy to cover the widest possible public in a category such as city cars it has resulted in the creation of a very interesting family. In addition to Spring for private customers, the company also offers solutions for company fleets, car sharing and, as we have already pointed out, for the transport of goods in urban environments.
At this point and after the success that the Spring is obtaining in a category that precisely does not generate large bags of registrations, a decisive question must be asked. Will Dacia launch a new electric car? Sooner or later Dacia will have to face the daunting task of becoming a 100% electric brand. And it is that, we must remember that Europe has already set an expiration date on the internal combustion engine.
In any case, and advance or delay its total electrification process, it is evident that Dacia will have to increase its offer of electric vehicles in the not too distant future
with a product even more committed than the Spring. Thanks to the support of the Renault Group and the so-called “Alliance”, Dacia will have the necessary technology to develop new 100% electric models.
Dacia plans a 100% electric alternative to the Sandero
Just a few weeks ago, the Alliance (formed by the Renault Group, Nissan and Mitsubishi) presented its roadmap for the year 2030 in society. A document that establishes some of the keys to the direction that each of the car brands will follow that are part of this group. Electrification and, more specifically, fully electric mobility, will be the protagonists.
Dacia will not be oblivious to all the changes that are coming to the Alliance and, therefore, to the Renault Group. The Dacia’s next electric car will use the CMF-BEV platform. An architecture intended for utility vehicles that will be used, among others, by the successor to the Nissan Micra and by the new Renault 5 E-Tech. Both models will see the light in the short term. However, the new Dacia model will still be hard to get.
Dacia’s new electric will be one step above the current Spring and, therefore, will position itself as a 100% electric alternative to the Dacia Sandero. A model that will be ready to see the light from 2025. Moreover, 2026 is indicated as the possible year of its launch. In addition, because it will share a platform with the aforementioned Renault and Nissan models, the door is opened to its manufacturing in Europe. At Renault’s so-called ElectriCity in France.
The autonomy of Dacia’s new electric car
On the other hand, and no less importantly, as it is a dedicated architecture, the CMF-BEV platform allows the maximum use of current battery technology. At the time of its official presentation, the Renault Group highlighted that the electric vehicles supported by this base will have a autonomy of up to 400 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. A performance that, if achieved, will allow Dacia to market a more committed product.
