There was a time when the DC Cinematic Universe he was going to have his one-man Batman movie. The Dark Knight of Ben Affleck debuted in the franchise in batman v. Superman, continuing as one of the main characters in the rest of the saga. However, his own project does not exist. Although he was very close, and Affleck himself was going to write and direct itFinally, the actor left and the film was cancelled. But the producer of him, jay olivehas now confirmed some more details.
In an interview for reverse, the executive has delved into the canceled Batman project. A film that, in his opinion, deserved to have hit theaters. And it is that the plot was going to be completely unprecedented, since that story had never been told in comics, or in movies, or on television. “Ben’s movie told something that had never been covered in the comics and that was built as a result of the stories about the myth of Batman during the last 80 years, but approaching it from a new perspective”, indicates Oliva.
The producer confesses that he cannot be more precise regarding the plot of the tape, although he is confident that this will change in the future. “Maybe one day I can let go, but I still can’t talk about it,” he says, hoping that fans will at least be able to enjoy that script in a few years. Because, as he believes, the text was exceptional and should have been carried out.
“I really can’t say much more, other than that it was fucking amazing”, recalls Oliva. “He was very smart, there were a lot of things about him that I really loved that I wish would have come true,” she adds, noting that he came to the Batman movie long after it had been in development. “As I understand it, there were a couple of drafts. When they hired me I don’t know if it was the second draft or something, but that’s what Geoff Johns and Ben taught me,” he says.
Why Was Bern Affleck’s Batman Movie Cancelled?
The truth is that, despite the presumably incredible script, ultimately the project fell under its own weight. “Ben had to leave for personal reasons and I understood it perfectly, but the time I spent with him working on it was fantastic”, reveals Oliva. Some rumors point to DC Studios itself as responsible, since they had not just accepted the tone of the Batman movie written and directed by Affleck.
Other theories point to the filming of League of Justice. The project chained one misfortune after another, from the death of the daughter of zack snyder until the reshoots and bad behavior Joss Whedon on the set. In turn, Affleck divorced and went through a severe personal crisis. All this caused him to end up very burned, which is why he would have given up the character and a movie that fans were looking forward to. Hopefully, as Oliva says, in a few years you can enjoy that story. Even if it’s with another actor playing the dark haired man.
