BBVA announced last week that it had decided to join Dalion, the project that is working on a blockchain-based digital identity management model so that citizens can manage their data through an application on their mobile devices.

In this sense, from BBVA they explained that with its incorporation, Dalion continues its path as an open and multisectoral project where companies from different fields such as tourism, telecommunications, distribution or energy will be able to be part of the change towards a “new digital future ” guaranteeing the integrity, security and quality of the data of any user in the coming years.

Antonio Macías Vecino, Head of Payment Methods at BBVA in Spain, mentioned that the BBVA organization considers that digital identity will be a key element in the digital relationship of all types of companies with their customers. Likewise, he explained that specifically the banking sector can play a fundamental role in being able to offer innovative services around digital identity.

“In this context, Dalion and its current partners offer a framework of guarantees to be able to address these types of initiatives,” Neighbor said.

On the other hand, Carlos Pastor Matut, director of ‘blockchain’ strategy at Inetum, one of the companies that launched Dalion in 2020, highlighted that having BBVA as a participant means adding financial and technological expertise to the project. Therefore, it considers that the bank’s entry into the project represents another step in Dalion’s progress. “for the construction of a single self-managed digital identity capable of guaranteeing the privacy of user data.”

Lastly, it should be noted that BBVA now joins the block made up of Banca March, Banco Santander, CaixaBank, Generali, Inetum, Línea Directa Aseguradora, MAPFRE, Repsol, Unicaja Banco and the Polytechnic University of Madrid for the development and support of Dalion .
