Matt Reeves considered Batman: Ego in the script for The Batman, a film that will hit theaters in March 2022.
Cooke began his career as an art director and graphic designer for a magazine. After answering an ad from Bruce Timm, creator of DC animated action, Darwyn Cooke entered the world of animation. Cooke left his mark on such animated series as Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, and Men In Black: The Series.
“Darwyn Cooke lived life like a character in a Micky Spillane novel, a return to a bygone era that, more than occasionally, was reflected in his work.”, declared in 2016 the expublisher of DC Comics, Dan DiDio.
Darwyn Cooke’s debut in the comics was Batman: Ego, a story that explored an aspect little addressed by other authors, the mind of Bruce Wayne.

After the suicide of an accomplice of the Joker, which Batman could not prevent, the Gotham vigilante comes into conflict, to the point of considering his resignation.
Bruce Wayne is fed up with racking up failures in his effort to bring hope to the end of crime to every corner of Gotham, while Batman is sure that these mistakes would end if he chose to murder criminals.
Batman offers Bruce to have the guts to end the lives of criminals, something that Wayne rejects, since for him Batman must represent a symbol of hope, and therefore he delimited the fragile line of not taking the lives of criminals.
Darwyn Cooke’s bold, direct style drew comparisons to works by Joe Kubert, Alex Toth, and the great Jack Kirby. Darwyn Cooke reflects his realistic and sensible personality in his work, where his strokes imprinted a lot of honesty on the characters.
