The new Audi urbansphere concept has been presented in society. Audi shows its vision of the future of premium mobility. A mobility marked by 100% electric technology and autonomous driving. Audi’s new concept model has been created to take on big Chinese cities. A vehicle whose autonomy exceeds 700 kilometers.
Audi has presented in society its new and very interesting conceptual study. The Audi urbansphere concept bursts onto the scene with the aim of showing the future vision of the company with the four rings and a glimpse of what urban premium mobility will be like. A mobility marked by electrification at its highest level and also by autonomous driving.
The new Audi urbansphere concept follows in the footsteps of the previously presented Audi skysphere and Audi grandsphere concept models. Through these three concept cars, Audi is creating a world of vehicle experiences that goes far beyond just staying on board in a car to get from point A to point B. Let’s go into detail and analyze all the keys to the new Urbanshpere.
The design of the new Audi urbansphere concept
Just take a quick look at the images that illustrate this article to discover that we are dealing with a conceptual model. The new Audi urbansphere concept sports a flowing body silhouette in which the typical forms and elements of the company have been applied. Let’s start our tour of the exterior by setting our sights on the front.
On the front there is a new interpretation of the Singleframe grille in the shape of a large octagon. The digital luminous surface sits behind a lightly tinted clear visor. This surface becomes a canvas known as Audi Light Canvas, which can be used, for example, for communication, with dynamic lighting effects. The headlight clusters stand out for being very sharp and thin.
The side view quickly draws attention to the highly curved and dynamic roof arch. Another important detail are the huge 24-inch wheels. And at the rear is a Matrix LED surface that offers grille-like operation. In general terms
The measurements of the new Audi urbansphere concept
The similarities of the new Urbanspehere with the Grandsphere They are especially striking. The design that the body adopts is a common feature between both conceptual models. The huge wheelbase and short overhangs are decisive. All without losing sight of the design language that has been applied.
The interior and technology of the new Audi urbansphere concept
Leaving aside the outside, if we go into the interior of the new Urbansphere We will quickly find ourselves surrounded by a digital, connected and, above all, futuristic environment. The first of the keys we find it as soon as we open the doors. And it is that, the rear doors are articulated in the opposite direction to the front ones. This, added to the absence of a B-pillar, allows you to enter and exit the cabin without much effort. Even the seats swivel out.
The four individual seats distributed in two rows allow passengers to enjoy a first-class comfortable travel experience. The rear seats are especially spacious and even incorporate leg rests. In addition, each seat has its own sound zone with speakers built into the headrests. There are also individual screens built in behind the front seats.
A transparent OLED display large format is a key element for the shared use of the infotainment system. It occupies the entire width of the interior of the vehicle and can be used by passengers in the rear seats to watch a movie or hold a video conference. Recycled materials are present in the passenger compartment to enhance the condition of an ecological vehicle.
The most innovative technology is combined with an elegant interior design with a certain minimalist touch. The new concept car has a level 4 autonomous driving. Therefore, the vehicle can be driven manually or autonomously. All useful driving information is displayed in high resolution across the dashboard. Additionally, a built-in sensor bar below the projection surface allows for quick content switching.
In case of selecting level 4 automated driving, the interior will be transformed when the steering wheel, pedals and screens disappear. A mobile interactive space is launched that opens up to the offers of a wide digital ecosystem.
The autonomy of the new Audi urbansphere concept
Beyond its technological equipment, which in this aspect is crucial considering the objective with which this vehicle has been created, we must focus on the 100% electric drive system. All this on the basis that the new Audi concept model is supported by the PPE platform (Premium Electric Platform). It is an architecture dedicated exclusively to battery electric vehicles.
The heart of the Audi urbansphere concept is a 120 kWh battery whose main objective is to feed two electric motors that develop a total power of 295 kW (401 hp) and 690 Nm dand maximum torque. In addition, by equipping one motor per shaft, it boasts a configuration of Four-wheel drive. So it doesn’t do without Audi’s quattro technology. The autonomy reaches 750 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.
Charging times vary depending on the outlet used. It is important to point out that this concept car has 800 volt charging technology, which ensures that the battery can be charged with up to 270 kW. Therefore, it will take approximately 10 minutes to obtain a charge that can travel more than 300 kilometers. The battery can be charged from 5 to 80% in less than 25 minutes.
The production version of the Audi urbansphere concept
At this point, a crucial question should be asked. Will there be a production version of the new Audi urbansphere concept? The brand has made it clear that we are facing a conceptual study with which it shows its vision of the premium mobility of the future. Audi has not indicated, at any time, its intention to launch an electric car based on this concept car. The first event where the new Audi urbansphere concept will be exposed to the general public will be the 2022 Beijing Motor Show.
