The Arkham Asylum video game series was one of the sources of inspiration for Ben Affleck’s Batman movie project.
Although The Batman will hit theaters in 2022, this film was derived after Ben Affleck’s resignation to make and star in a Dark Knight movie, which would serve as a sequel to the Justice League plot, which would have elements from the Arkham Asylum video games.
In Zack Snyder’s: Justice League, one of the post-credits scenes shows Lex Luthor revealing to Slade Wilson that Bruce Wayne is Batman, which would lay the groundwork for the Ben Affleck-led movie.
Following the revelation of Batman’s secret identity, Deathstroke would set in motion a plan to take down Batman, but not just Gotham’s hero.
Wilson would detail a series of actions that would lead to the ruin of Bruce Wayne, who would be a victim of the contempt of society, which will drive him to the brink of madness.
In addition to this, Deathstroke would execute a series of murders of people close to Bruce Wayne, which would lead Batman to go to Arkham Asylum in order to test his sanity with the tenants of the infamous asylum.
The bat’s sanity at stake
Robert Richardson, who was the director of photography for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and who would occupy the same position in Ben Affleck’s Batman movie, revealed the plot details that the winner of the Oscar for Best Picture in 2012 had written for argus.
“I wanted to shoot Batman with Ben (Affleck) because that was the next movie we had. There was a script, but not one that he liked… he worked hard to change it… He was getting into the more crazy aspects… He was getting more into Arkham (Asylum), he was getting into where everyone was bad”.
Even Joe Manganiello, an actor who played Deathstroke in Justice League, pointed out the importance of the scene where Wilson learns of Batman’s secret identity.
“Slade lost his son, and he blamed Batman for it… So Luthor summons him to his yacht, and gives him a key piece of information that Batman’s secret identity is Bruce Wayne. So now he’s unleashing this unstoppable force on Gotham.”.
Arkham Asylum in the DCEU
While in Batman v Superman Batman’s fight with Lex Luthor’s henchmen was inspired by the action of the video game Arkham Asylum, the tension of the Dark Knight in the prison for the insane was the nuance of the film that Ben Affleck planned.
Unfortunately, Ben Affleck stepped aside from The Batman project, which Matt Reeves took over as director, with Robert Pattinson in the role of the Dark Knight.
“I tried to direct a version of the movie and work with a good writer, but I couldn’t create a good version. I couldn’t make it. So I decided it was time to let someone else try. They have good people working on it, and that has me excited.”
But fans of the DC Extended Universe have clamored in networks for the return of Ben Affleck for the making of his solo Bat Man movie.
