The NFTs still remain controversial in the video game industry. Square Enix is determined to jump into that arena, Nintendo is unclear on the benefits, and Xbox has steadfastly denied entering this kind of business. Now, in the cubic world of Minecraft there is no gap either.
Through a post on its website, Mojang has made several comments about non-fungible tokens and blockchain technology. This is due to the various requests from the community to clarify the position of the study and they have been clear about it, since “the integration of NFT with Minecraft It’s not, in general, something we’re going to support or allow.”
Following a description of what NFTs are, Mojang explains that they have been heavily associated with speculation, which is often a slippery slope. He clarifies the developer that his policy is that “NFTs can create models of scarcity and exclusion“, so it has not updated its policies to disallow them, as well as any content related to blockchain technology.
And it is that several companies have created NFTs related to Minecraftwhich clashes head-on with “the values of creative inclusion and joint play. NFTs do not include our entire community and create a scenario of those who have and those who have not. (…) what we believe is not consistent with the joy and long-term success of our players.
Therefore, the final consequence is that “the integration of blockchain technologies within our client and server applications of Minecraft, nor can they be used to create NFTs associated with any content of the game, including worlds, skins, personal items, or other mods.”
