The Apple company is very jealous of its products and services, which has caused it to be involved in multiple legal disputes, but today we have discovered what is probably the most absurd of all: it has sued the Ukrainian director Vasyl Moskalenko for his movie ‘Apple Man’.
The first thing one would think when hearing the title of the tape in question is that it must have some close link with Apple, but the truth is that it does not. ‘Apple-Man’ is a satire on superhero movies in which its protagonist has the ability to levitate apples. The fruit and not any product of the company that has already brought its complaint before the law.
The most absurd lawsuit in history?
From Apple they claim concern about the possibility that consumers associate the film with Apple or even think that the company itself has approved it or is behind it in the 467-page document that you have submitted.
Apple’s move comes after Moskalenko got approval from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, but Apple is carrying out an aggressive campaign to prevent the registration of the Apple-Man trademark.
That can lead Moskalenko to a limit situation, since he financed ‘Apple-Man’ through a kickstarter campaign that raised $120,000. Now he faces the possibility of having to spend all that money on legal expenses and has already expressed his concern in a video he has released on YouTube.
Moskalenko stresses that “my film is about apples, the fruit” and that there is no mention of Apple or any of its products, also noting that “if the registration is denied, there is no guarantee that Apple will not require to remove my film after its release“. From Apple no statement has been made in this regard.
