Apple may remove the popular Siri activation phrase (“Hey Siri”) from all of its devices in the future. According to Mark Gurman of Bloombergthe Cupertino company is working on the possibility of summon the assistant only by saying the word “Siri” along with the command or question; something that, apparently, will allow a more natural and fluid interaction.
The implementation of this change, however, not expected until next year or even 2024. Gurman highlights that the elimination of the current command and the implementation of “Siri” as a keyword to summon the assistant, represents a significant “technical challenge”Well, Apple will have to improve the capabilities of its artificial intelligence so that Siri recognizes the word in different tones or accents.
Complexity means that Siri can understand the singular phrase “Siri” in multiple different accents and languages. Having two words: “Hey Siri”, increases the probability that the system receives the signal correctly.
Mark Gurman mentions.
In any case, and if the company finally manages to make the activation phrase “Siri”, instead of “Hey, Siri”, the user will only be able to say, for example: “Siri, turn on the office lights”, and the wizard would perform the action. It is also highly likely that this change will reach all the company’s devices on which the assistant can be used, including iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple TV, HomePod, or AirPods.
Summon Siri just by saying her name, as is already possible with Alexa and Cortana
Apple, precisely, is not the only company that will allow the activation of the assistant – Siri in this case – with just a word. Amazon actually already offers the possibility to summon Alexa just by saying her name. Also Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual assistant. Google, however, remains a step behind, since it is still necessary to summon Google Assistant with the phrases “Hey, Google” or “Ok, Google”.
In front of Siri, the assistant of the Mountain View company has a function that allows perform consecutive commands without saying the activation phrase again. For example, it is possible to say “Hey, Google; Turn on the lights and play Taylor Swift’s latest album.”
Siri, however, appears to be a step up in responsiveness from Alexa and Google Assistant, its two main competitors. The company, yes. could improve the integration of your assistant in third-party services and applications.
