The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obradorawaits this Monday the prompt extradition of the writer and former Mexican diplomat Andres Roemer, detained in Israel after being on the run there for more than two years for allegedly abusing dozens of women in Mexico.
In his morning press conference, The Mexican ruler also asked Israel to extradite Tomás Zerónformer director of the defunct Criminal Investigation Agency, involved in the case of the 43 Ayotzinapa students who disappeared in September 2014 in the southern state of Guerrero.
Yes, there is that information, this person (Roemer) was detained in Israel and is going to be extradited, today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is going to report on this case,” commented the president questioned on the subject.
The accusations against Roemer
More than a dozen women accused the academic of sexual abuse and inappropriate behavior in February 2021.and since then the group Periodistas Unidas Mexicanas (PUM) collected more than 60 complaints.

In May of that year, Interpol issued a red card to search for and arrest the former diplomat, accused of summoning his alleged victims to his home with work excuses and then touching and making advances and, finally, offering them money.
Although the Mexican Foreign Ministry had submitted more than five extradition requests to Israel, the case was complicated because there is no treaty on this issue between both countries.
This man, who is accused of alleged acts of sexual harassment and other crimes, went there to Israel, so today we were informed that in this case extradition has already been granted or will be allowed,” López Obrador mentioned.
The president took advantage of Roemer’s arrest to reiterate his demand to Israel regarding the extradition of Zerón, who remains a fugitive.
Let us hope that the Israeli authorities help in the extradition of Mr. Zerón, who is involved in the unfortunate fact of the disappearance of the young people of Ayotzinapa, fundamentally in the creation of the so-called historical truth (version of the Government of Enrique Peña Nieto (2012- 2018)”, he noted.
López Obrador recalled that he sent a first letter to Israel on the issue in September 2021, when the prime minister was Naftali Bennet, and another this year, already with Benjamin Netanyahu in power.
He is there and it has been difficult for us to extradite him. They excuse themselves by saying that there is no extradition agreement between Mexico and Israel, but it is a matter of violation of human rights. I have sent two letters to two prime ministers of Israel,” he said.
