The acquisition of Bethesda by Xbox meant that numerous licenses The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, DOOM, Wolfenstein, Dishonored, Prey, Deathloop, Quake, Rage and The Evil Within, became part of Microsoft’s line of video games. Of course, the important purchase was not made just to get all these licenses, but the studios that developed all of them as they had the potential to make new ones. In fact, according to video game industry insider Nick Baker, known for leaking Xbox information, there’s a real-time strategy game in development by a Bethesda studio.
Bethesda would be working on this new game under the name of Project Wormwood. This name could simply be the code name of a game belonging to a Bethesda IP, although it is more likely that it is a license since none of the sagas of the study have tested the strategy in real time. Unfortunately there are no more details of the project, which gives credibility to the “filtration” from Nick, since it is very likely that Microsoft will urge Bethesda to continue its sagas but also to create new ones by exploring new formulas.
What could Wormwood mean? We do not know. The word can be related to the Netflix miniseries with the same name. It is the story of filmmaker Errol Morris as he explores the mysterious death of an American scientist who became involved in a secret Cold War program known as MK-Ultra. However, it is most likely that this Bethesda project has nothing to do with the Netflix series.
Whatever Project Wormwood is, what could be likely is that the title is exclusive to Xbox Given how Bethesda exclusivities will be treated from now on.
