After the endorsement obtained in the Senate for the reform of the Mining Law, where one of the main changes points to the nationalization of lithium, Morena presented a particular query on her social networks.
The survey seeks to choose the name and brand of the company or state agency that will be in charge of the exploration and exploitation of lithium.
How could it be otherwise, there is controversy, because one of the proposed names is AMLITIO, in reference to the acronym by which the president of Mexico is known, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO).
The modification in the Mining Law proposes to specifically change four articles, one of which creates a decentralized public body that regulates the use of lithium.
According to the survey launched by Morena on social networks, the name of that company, agency or body could be Mexican Lithium Agency (AMLITIO) or Mexican Lithium (LITIOMEX). The latter is similar to the abbreviation for PEMEX (Petróleros Mexicanos).
Until the morning of this Thursday, April 21, the survey is even, with a slight advantage in favor of LITIOMEX, 53.2% to 43.8%. And almost 15,000 people have already voted.
The choice between the two names was much closer on the night of April 20, when LITIOMEX barely led AMLITIO by 0.6 percentage points.
“Now that lithium is the property of the nation and its exploitation, exploration and use will be in charge of the State, what name would you like the body in charge of its administration to bear?”, says the tweet published by the Morena account that proposes between the two names.

With the changes to the Mining Law, lithium was declared a public utility metal.
In this way, no concessions, licenses, contracts, permits or authorizations will be granted for it to be exploited if they are not of a national nature.
At the same time, it was established that the economic value chains linked to lithium will be administered and controlled by the State through the aforementioned public body.
The Mexican Geological Service, in turn, will “assist the decentralized public body in charge of exploration.”
